A. Are you eligible?
There are specific eligibility requirements for applicants to this program. At the time of participation in the program, a college student must be (1) enrolled as full time undergraduate student, (2) have completed ar least one semester of undergraduate biology, (3) have at least one semester of undergraduate school remaining before graduation, and (4) attend Bates College, Bowdoin College, Colby College, College of the Atlantic, The University of Maine, The University of Maine - Farmington, The University of Maine-Machias or any other college or university in Maine.
B. Required documents
A complete application consists of the documents listed on the Checklist, Section F of this form. Additional hard copies are not required for documents already submitted online.
C. Submission
Students are asked to review a hard copy of the application and apply online. The required Short answer questions are to be sent by email to internships@mdibl.org (MS Word, TXT, or RTF format only). The checklist with required hard copy materials (checklist, transcript, recommendations) should be mailed. We will not review incomplete applications.

We must receive your application by January 16, 2009 . Final award notifications will be made by March 1st.
D. Course Credit
Students interested in receiving course credit should contact their registrar or biology department to discuss credit under existing independent study programs.

Please provide concise responses to the following essay questions. Responses should be double-spaced and not exceed four pages total.
1. Describe your qualifications for participation in this program. Include examples of any specific experiments in science. List previous summer programs and courses that included hands-on laboratory experience. (Lab experience is not a requirement for admission.)
2. Why do you want to attend this program? What about science interests and challenges you?
3. Describe your extracurricular interests, activities, or pastimes.
4. Describe your education and career goals and reasons for pursuing them.
5. Explain why you chose the mentors listed on the application, including any strong preferences you have for or against working in a specific area.
